Opening Morning Prayer…
Guided Prayers
A short prayer to begin the day — a psalm, a brief reading, intercessions, and the Our Father. There is one for each day of the week.
Opening
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Halfway through the week, we stop and remember whose we are.
Psalm
Psalm 145:1–9 · NABRE
Praise. Of David. I will extol you, my God and king; I will bless your name forever and ever.
Every day I will bless you; I will praise your name forever and ever.
Great is the LORD and worthy of much praise, whose grandeur is beyond understanding.
One generation praises your deeds to the next and proclaims your mighty works.
They speak of the splendor of your majestic glory, tell of your wonderful deeds.
They speak of the power of your awesome acts and recount your great deeds.
They celebrate your abounding goodness and joyfully sing of your justice.
The LORD is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in mercy.
The LORD is good to all, compassionate toward all your works.
Reading
Colossians 3:12–14 · NABRE
Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, heartfelt compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience, bearing with one another and forgiving one another, if one has a grievance against another; as the Lord has forgiven you, so must you also do. And over all these put on love, that is, the bond of perfection.
Intercessions
For the Pope, our bishops, and all who lead the Church: give them wisdom and humility.
For Christians who suffer for their faith: hold them fast, Lord.
For our city and those who govern it: give them a heart for the common good.
For peace where there is war and fear: come quickly, Lord, and heal what we cannot.
Lord, hear our prayer.
The Our Father
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.
