Opening Evening Prayer…
Guided Prayers
A short prayer to end the day — a psalm, a brief reading, intercessions, the Our Father, and a commendation of the night to God. There is one for each day of the week.
Opening
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
At the end of the day of the cross, we bring our sins and sorrows to his mercy.
Psalm
Psalm 32 · NABRE
Of David. A maskil. Blessed is the one whose fault is removed, whose sin is forgiven.
Blessed is the man to whom the LORD imputes no guilt, in whose spirit is no deceit.
Because I kept silent, my bones wasted away; I groaned all day long.
For day and night your hand was heavy upon me; my strength withered as in dry summer heat. Selah
Then I declared my sin to you; my guilt I did not hide. I said, “I confess my transgression to the LORD,” and you took away the guilt of my sin. Selah
Therefore every loyal person should pray to you in time of distress. Though flood waters threaten, they will never reach him.
You are my shelter; you guard me from distress; with joyful shouts of deliverance you surround me. Selah
I will instruct you and show you the way you should walk, give you counsel with my eye upon you.
Do not be like a horse or mule, without understanding; with bit and bridle their temper is curbed, else they will not come to you.
Many are the sorrows of the wicked one, but mercy surrounds the one who trusts in the LORD.
Be glad in the LORD and rejoice, you righteous; exult, all you upright of heart.
Reading
Micah 7:7–8 · NABRE
But as for me, I will look to the LORD, I will wait for God my savior; my God will hear me! Do not rejoice over me, my enemy! Though I have fallen, I will arise; though I sit in darkness, the LORD is my light.
Intercessions
For mercy on this week’s sins, spoken and unspoken: we are sorry, Lord; make us new.
For the dying of this day and night: receive them in your compassion.
For those carrying grief into the weekend: hold them close.
For rest that forgives the whole week.
Lord, hear our prayer.
The Our Father
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.
Into the Night
Lord, I place this day — all of it — into your hands. Watch over everyone I love through the night, and wake me ready to praise you. Amen.
Tomorrow evening, the next day's prayer will be here. Back to Pray.
