Opening Evening Prayer…
Guided Prayers
A short prayer to end the day — a psalm, a brief reading, intercessions, the Our Father, and a commendation of the night to God. There is one for each day of the week.
Opening
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Night is coming; we bring the day to God before we sleep.
Psalm
Psalm 121 · NABRE
A song of ascents. I raise my eyes toward the mountains. From whence shall come my help?
My help comes from the LORD, the maker of heaven and earth.
He will not allow your foot to slip; or your guardian to sleep.
Behold, the guardian of Israel never slumbers nor sleeps.
The LORD is your guardian; the LORD is your shade at your right hand.
By day the sun will not strike you, nor the moon by night.
The LORD will guard you from all evil; he will guard your soul.
The LORD will guard your coming and going both now and forever.
Reading
Ephesians 4:26–27 · NABRE
Be angry but do not sin; do not let the sun set on your anger, and do not leave room for the devil.
Intercessions
For the people we found difficult today: bless them, Lord, and soften our hearts toward them.
For parents putting children to bed tonight: give them tenderness and patience.
For anyone eating alone tonight: be their companion.
For trust that you were with us today, even in the parts we did not notice.
Lord, hear our prayer.
The Our Father
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.
Into the Night
Lord, I place this day — all of it — into your hands. Watch over everyone I love through the night, and wake me ready to praise you. Amen.
Tomorrow evening, the next day's prayer will be here. Back to Pray.
