Opening Evening Prayer…
Guided Prayers
A short prayer to end the day — a psalm, a brief reading, intercessions, the Our Father, and a commendation of the night to God. There is one for each day of the week.
Opening
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
The day is ending; before rest, we look back on it with God.
Psalm
Psalm 23 · NABRE
A psalm of David. The LORD is my shepherd; there is nothing I lack.
In green pastures he makes me lie down; to still waters he leads me;
he restores my soul. He guides me along right paths for the sake of his name.
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff comfort me.
You set a table before me in front of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
Indeed, goodness and mercy will pursue me all the days of my life; I will dwell in the house of the LORD for endless days.
Reading
1 Thessalonians 5:9–11 · NABRE
For God did not destine us for wrath, but to gain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, who died for us, so that whether we are awake or asleep we may live together with him. Therefore, encourage one another and build one another up, as indeed you do.
Intercessions
For the week that begins tomorrow: go before us, Lord, into every hour of it.
For rest tonight that truly restores us in body and soul.
For anyone who dreads Monday: carry what they cannot.
For the grace to begin the week with trust instead of fear.
Lord, hear our prayer.
The Our Father
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.
Into the Night
Lord, I place this day — all of it — into your hands. Watch over everyone I love through the night, and wake me ready to praise you. Amen.
Tomorrow evening, the next day's prayer will be here. Back to Pray.
